1. Introduction

RecipeHubb ("we", "our", "us") is a recipe management application developed by James Russell. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use our mobile application and web service.

2. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create an account, we collect your email address, first name, and last name. If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name, email address, and a unique identifier from the respective provider. We do not receive or store your Apple ID or Google password.

Recipe and Meal Data

We store recipes you save, meal plans you create, pantry items you track, shopping lists, and cookbook collections. This data is associated with your account and is only accessible by you.

Camera and Photos

Our app uses your device camera for two purposes: scanning barcodes to add pantry and shopping list items, and capturing photos of recipes for AI-powered recipe extraction. Camera access is only activated when you explicitly initiate a scan or photo capture. We do not access your camera in the background or record video. Photos taken for recipe extraction are processed and not stored permanently on our servers.

Usage Data

We record the URLs you submit for recipe scraping as part of normal app operation. We also collect limited, privacy-safe analytics about feature usage and successful actions, such as creating a recipe, saving a meal plan, or completing a subscription. These analytics do not include recipe content, Assistant prompts, email addresses, advertising identifiers, or precise location data. We use this information to understand which features are useful and improve RecipeHubb.

3. How We Use Your Information

• To provide and maintain the RecipeHubb service
• To authenticate your account and keep your data secure
• To process barcode scans for product lookup via the Open Food Facts API
• To extract recipe information from photos using AI (OpenAI)
• To scrape recipe content from URLs you provide
• To calculate nutritional information for your recipes
• To improve and develop new features

4. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services:

• Apple Sign In — for authentication on iOS devices
• Google Sign In — for authentication on Android devices
• OpenAI — for AI-powered recipe extraction from photos and text
• Edamam — for nutritional analysis of recipes (ingredient strings only, no personal data shared)
• Open Food Facts — for barcode product lookup (no personal data shared)
• RevenueCat — to process and manage mobile subscription status using your internal numeric RecipeHubb user ID
• Apple App Store and Google Play — to process subscription payment and billing; RecipeHubb does not receive your full payment-card details

We do not sell your personal information to any third parties. We do not use your data for advertising.

5. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored securely on our servers using PostgreSQL with encrypted connections. Passwords are hashed using bcrypt. Authentication tokens are generated using JWT. All data transmission uses HTTPS encryption.

6. Data Isolation

Each user's data is completely isolated. You can only access your own recipes, meal plans, pantry items, shopping lists, and cookbooks. Other users cannot see your data.

7. Data Deletion

You can delete your account at any time from the Profile page in the app. When you delete your account, all associated data (recipes, meal plans, pantry items, shopping lists, and cookbooks) is permanently removed from our servers. Subscription transaction and billing records may remain with RevenueCat and the applicable app store as required for purchase restoration, fraud prevention, tax, and legal compliance. Account deletion does not cancel an App Store or Google Play subscription; cancel it in your store subscription settings.

8. Children's Privacy

RecipeHubb is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we become aware that we have collected data from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete it.

9. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify users of significant changes through the app. Your continued use of RecipeHubb after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
